Regulatory capture

Regulatory capture adalah suatu keadaan ketika badan regulasi yang didirikan demi kepentingan umum malah memenuhi kepentingan politik atau komersial kelompok-kelompok tertentu yang mendominasi industri atau sektor yang seharusnya diregulasi.[1]

Teori regulatory capture menjadi pusat perhatian bidang studi yang disebut "ekonomi regulasi": ekonom yang berfokus pada bidang ini kritis terhadap konsep bahwa campur tangan badan regulasi pemerintah itu dilandasi oleh perlindungan barang publik. Contoh ekonom yang mengembangkan teori regulatory capture adalah pemenang Hadiah Nobel George Stigler.[2][3]
