Rel layang adalah jalur kereta api yang berada di atas bidang jalan menggunakan jembatan, viaduk, atau struktur layang lainnya. Rel layang dapat menggunakan lebar sepur yang bermacam-macam, seperti sepur sempit, sepur lebar, sepur standar, monorel, atau kereta gantung. Rel layang umumnya ditemui di wilayah perkotaan untuk menghindari adanya perlintasan sebidang.

Sistem monorel

Sebagian besar monorel merupakan rel layang, seperti Monorel Disneyland (1959), Monorel Tokyo (1964), Monorel Sydney (1988–2013), KL Monorail, Monorel Las Vegas, Monorel Seattle Center, dan Monorel São Paulo. Sebagian besar kereta maglev juga menggunakan sistem rel layang.
