Robert Bruce Merrifield (15 Juli 1921 – 14 Mei 2006) ialah seorang biokimiawan Amerika Serikat yang dianugerahi Nobel Kimia tahun 1984 untuk pengembangan metodologi sintesis kimiawi matriks padat.
Di Institut Rockefeller untuk Penelitian Medis, yang kelak menjadi Universitas Rockefeller, ia bekerja sebagai asisten Dr. D.W. Woolley atas faktor pertumbuhan dinukleotida yang ditemukannya saat S1 yang pernah ditemukan Woolley sebelumnya. Studi tersebut menuju pada perlunya sintesis peptida, dan akhirnya pada gagasan sintesis peptida fase padat pada tahun 1959. Pada tahun 1963, ia adalah pengarang tunggal karya klasik di Journal of the American Chemical Society di mana ia melaporkan metode yang disebutnya sintesis peptida fase padat, yang merupakan karya ke-5 yang banyak dikutip dalam sejarah jurnal.
