SMA Negeri 5 Magelang, merupakan salah satu Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri yang ada di Kota Magelang, beralamat di Jalan Barito II Sidotopo - Magelang. Sama dengan SMA pada umumnya di Indonesia masa pendidikan sekolah di SMA Negeri 5 Magelang ditempuh dalam waktu tiga tahun pelajaran, mulai dari Kelas X sampai Kelas XII.
Sejarah
SMA Negeri 5 Magelang berawal dari Sekolah Menengah Olahraga Atas (SMOA) yang berdiri tahun 1968. Tahun 1978 SMOA berubah nama menjadi Sekolah Guru Olahraga (SGO). Pada masa itu di Magelang hanya ada dua SMA Negeri, yakni SMA Negeri 1 dan SMA Negeri 2 Magelang. Kemudian pada tahun 1991 SGO dan SPG berubah fungsi menjadi SMA Negeri. SGO berubah menjadi SMAN 5 Magelang, dan SPG menjadi SMAN 4 Megelang. Dari tahun 1991 itu, SMAN 5 Magelang sampai sekarang tidak terjadi pergantian fungsi lagi.
