SN 1994D adalah supernova tipe Ia yang terletak di tepi galaksi NGC 4526, di gugus Virgo.[2][3] Diumumkan di IAUC 5946 supernova ini ditemukan pada tahun 1994 secara independen oleh Lick Observatory Supernova Search dan Dr. M. Richmond di Universitas Negeri San Francisco, 2 minggu sebelum kecerahan maksimum.[4] Kecerahan maksimum SN 1994D adalah mag. 11,8 dan bertahan selama berminggu-minggu yang terlihat sebagai titik terang.[5][6] Galaksi SN ini, NGC 4526, juga merupakan galaksi induk SN 1969E (IAUC 2139).[7]

Pemahaman saat ini tentang sistem nenek moyang untuk supernova Ia menampilkan massa katai putih Karbon-Oksigen sub-Chandrasekhar yang bertambah dari bintang biasa ke massa Chandrasekhar atau bergabung dengan katai putih karbon-oksigen lain dan kemudian meledak.[8][9]
