Saint-John Perse

Saint-John Perse (lahir 1887 di Pulau Guadeloupe; meninggal 1975 di Prancis) adalah seorang diplomat dan penulis Prancis yang menerima Penghargaan Nobel Sastra.

Biografi

Lahir dengan nama Alexis Léger di pulau Guadeloupe pada tanggal 31 Mei 1887. Keluarganya pindah ke Prancis ke kota Pau pada tahun 1899; Alexis memasuki Universitas Bourdeaux dan menerima baccalaureat pada tahun 1904. Di Paris bertemu dengan François Jammes dan Paul Claudel, menerbitkan karya pertama, Elogia, ditulis pada tahun 1911; pada tahun berikutnya ia menerjemahkan Robinson Crusoe. Ia menjabat sebagai sekretaris di KeduBes Prancis di Beijing, Tiongkok pada tahun 1916; pada tahun 1924, oleh Aristide Briand ia diangkat sebagai asistennya, lalu menerbitkan karya sastra epik Anabasin dengan nama Saint-John Perse untuk pertama kalinya. Pada masa Perang Dunia II, ia tetap dalam kedudukan sebagai sekjen di DepLu. Pada tahun 1960 ia menerima Nobel Sastra. Pada tanggal 20 September 1975 ia meninggal di departemen Var, dan dimakamnkan di kota Giens.
