Sebuah crux immissa atau Salib Latin

Salib Latin atau crux immissa adalah jenis salib yang berbentuk balok vertikal menjorok di atas balok silang,[1] yang membentuk salib empat lengan. Biasanya dua lengan horizontal dan vertikal atas memiliki panjang yang sama, meskipun terkadang lengan vertikal lebih pendek, tetapi lengan vertikal bawah selalu jauh lebih panjang daripada lengan lainnya.[2]

Jika ditampilkan terbalik, maka disebut Salib Santo Petrus, karena ia dieksekusi di salib yang terbalik.[3] Ketika ditampilkan dari samping, salib ini disebut salib Salib Santo Filipus karena alasan yang sama.[3]

Banyak gereja abad pertengahan dirancang menggunakan denah salib Latin. Ketika dilihat dari atas, bentuknya menyerupai salib Latin. Denah salib Latin terutama berisi nave, transept, apse, dan narthex.
