Sarangi

Sarangi adalah alat musik dawai berleher pendek membungkuk dari anak benua India, yang digunakan dalam musik klasik Hindustan serta musik Pakistan. Dikatakan paling menyerupai suara manusia - mampu meniru ornamen vokal seperti gamak (getar) dan meends (gerakan meluncur).

Repertoar pemain sarangi secara tradisional sangat erat kaitannya dengan musik vokal. Namun demikian, konser dengan solo sarangi sebagai item utama terkadang akan menyertakan presentasi raag skala penuh dengan alap ekstensif (pengembangan improvisasi tak terukur dari raga) dalam intensitas yang meningkat (alap ke jor ke jhala) dan beberapa komposisi dalam tempo yang meningkat disebut bandish. Dengan demikian, ia bisa dilihat setara dengan gaya instrumental lainnya seperti sitar, sarod, dan bansuri.
