Saresiklin adalah obat antibiotik spektrum sempit yang berasal dari golongan tetrasiklin.[2][3] Obat ini secara khusus dirancang untuk pengobatan jerawat, dan telah disetujui oleh FDA pada bulan Oktober 2018 untuk pengobatan lesi inflamasi jerawat sedang hingga berat non-nodular pada pasien berusia 9 tahun ke atas.[1] Dua uji klinis acak dan terkontrol dengan baik melaporkan data kemanjuran pada jerawat wajah dan batang tubuh (punggung dan dada).[4] Kemanjuran dinilai pada total 2002 subjek berusia 9 tahun ke atas.[1] Tidak seperti antibiotik kelas tetrasiklin lainnya, saresiklin memiliki gugus C7 panjang yang meluas ke dalam dan berinteraksi langsung dengan RNA duta (mRNA) bakteri.[5] Spektrum aktivitasnya terbatas pada bakteri Gram-positif yang relevan secara klinis, terutama Cutibacterium acnes, dengan sedikit atau tidak ada aktivitas terhadap mikroflora bakteri Gram-negatif yang umum ditemukan di saluran pencernaan manusia.[6]

Kegunaan medis

Saresiklin diindikasikan untuk pengobatan lesi inflamasi pada jerawat non-nodular sedang hingga parah.[1]
