Selulosa merupakan senyawa organik dengan rumus (C6H10O5)n, sebuah polisakarida yang terdiri dari rantai linier dari beberapa ratus hingga lebih dari sepuluh ribu ikatan β(1→4) unit D-glukosa.[2][3]

Selulosa merupakan komponen struktural utama dinding sel[4] dari tanaman hijau, banyak bentuk ganggang dan Oomycetes. Beberapa spesies bakteri mengeluarkan selulosa untuk membentuk biofilm. Selulosa adalah senyawa organik yang paling umum di Bumi. Sekitar 33% dari semua materi tanaman adalah selulosa (isi selulosa dari kapas adalah 90% dan dari kayu adalah 40-50%). Selulosa tidak dapat dicerna oleh manusia, hanya dapat dicerna oleh hewan yang memiliki enzim selulase.[5][6]
