Senat adalah majelis tinggi Majelis Nasional Belize. Ia memiliki 13 anggota yang ditunjuk untuk masa jabatan lima tahun oleh Gubernur Jenderal.[1] 6 orang atas saran Perdana Menteri, 3 atas saran Pemimpin Oposisi, dan masing-masing 1 orang atas saran Dewan Gereja dan Asosiasi Gereja Injili Belize, Kamar Dagang dan Industri Belize bersama Belize Better Business Bureau, organisasi non-pemerintah yang bereputasi baik, serta Kongres Serikat Buruh Nasional dan Komite Pengarah Masyarakat Sipil; 1 kursi dipegang oleh presiden Senat.[2]

Senat memilih presiden dan wakil presiden Senat pada pertemuan pertama setelah pemilihan umum. Orang yang terpilih sebagai presiden dapat seorang senator (asalkan dia tidak merangkap jabatan menteri) atau orang di luar Senat. Wakil presiden harus merupakan anggota Senat yang tidak memegang jabatan menteri. (Konstitusi, Pasal 66).[3]
