Simfoni adalah genre publik, sonata genre domestik. Karya simfoni yang pertama adalah Simfoni no.41 gubahan raksasa musik klasik Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Simfoni terakhir Mozart yang dijuluki “Jupiter” ini menunjukkan puncak kematangan Mozart sebagai penggubah musik simfoni zaman klasik. Namun ada sebuah tema tersembunyi dari karya simfonik yang dipersembahkan malam itu. Tema tersebut adalah bahwa dua simfoni yang ditampilkan adalah karya simfoni terakhir dari masing-masing komposer, menunjukkan kematangan terakhir masing-masing komposer tersebut.
