Smallworld

Smallworld adalah suatu perusahaan GIS yang didirikan di Cambridge, Inggris pada tahun 1989 oleh Dick Newell dan kawan kawan. Pada bulan September 2000, perusahaan ini diambil alih oleh GE Energy, salah satu divisi dari General Electric. Nama Smallworld tetap dipakai sebagai merek dagang dari software GIS mereka. Teknologi Smallworld mencakup produk aplikasi untuk telekomunikasi, listrik dan perusahaan publik lainnya.

Aplikasi

Aplikasi yang ditawarkan termasuk PowerOn outage management, Smallworld Design Manager for engineering design, Smallworld Network Inventory for telecommunications and Smallworld Spatial Intelligence for business analysis.

Teknologi

Platform Smallworld berbasis dua teknologi, yaitu:

  1. MAGIK, suatu bahasa pemrograman yang berorientasi objek yang mendukung pewarisan berganda, polimorfism,dsb.
  2. VMDS (Version Managed Data Store), didesain dan dioptimasi untuk penyimpanan dan analisis spasial serta data topologi yang kompleks
