Solfatara
Solfatara adalah fumarol yang mengeluarkan gas-gas oksida belerang (seperti SO2 dan SO3), selain karbon dioksida (CO2)dan uap air (H2O). Solfatara mudah dikenali karena udara sekitarnya berbau busuk seperti kentut, sebagai bau khas gas-gas oksida belerang. Dalam konsentrasi tinggi, gas emisi ini juga berbahaya bagi hewan dan manusia.
Belerang dengan nama lain "sulfur" adalah elemen ke-16 di tabel elemen.
Nama Solfatara berasal dari bahasa Latin "Sulpha terra", yang artinya "daratan belerang", atau "bumi belerang". Nama "Solfatara" diambil dari nama tempat bernama sama di Gunung Pozzoli, Italia.
