Styx (dikenal juga sebagai S/2012 (134340) 1, S/2012 P 1, atau P5) adalah satelit Pluto yang kecil yang penemuannya diumumkan pada 11 Juli 2012. Ini merupakan satelit Pluto yang ke lima yang sudah diketahui, dan ditemukan kira-kira satu tahun setelah penemuan S/2011 (134340) 1, satelit Pluto yang ke empat.

Penemuan

Satelit ini ditemukan dengan mengamati sembilan set gambar yang diambil antara 26 Juni dan 9 Juli 2012 oleh teleskop Hubble.[2] Pengamatan yang menghasilkan temuan satelit pluto ini sebagai bentuk persiapan kedatangan New Horizons yang saat ini sedang menuju ke Pluto.[3]

Sifat fisik

Satelit ini diperkirakan memiliki diameter 10 - 25 kilometer.[4][5] Angka ini dihitung dari magnitudo semu satelit tersebut dengan menggunakan estimasi albedo 0.35 dan 0.04 untuk batas bawah dan batas atasnya.[1]
