Tabora adalah ibu kota Region Tabora, Tanzania dan diklasifikasikan sebagai kotamadya oleh pemerintah Tanzania. Ini juga merupakan pusat administrasi Distrik Perkotaan Tabora. Menurut sensus 2012, kota ini memiliki populasi 226.999.[2]

Pada tahun 1916 garnisun kolonial memiliki mint darurat di Tabora, membuat beberapa keping emas serta sejumlah besar tembaga mentah dan kuningan koin minor Rupie Afrika Timur Jerman Mint ditandai dengan "T". Selama Serangan Tabora dalam Kampanye Afrika Timur Perang Dunia I, angkatan bersenjata kolonial Kongo Belgia (Force Publique) di bawah komando Jenderal Charles Tombeur merebut kota pada 19 September 1916 setelah 10 hari dan malam pertempuran sengit.[3]
