Dimyath atau Damietta (bahasa Arab: مدينة دمياط, Madīnah Dimyāth) ialah ibu kota Governorat Dimyath, Mesir. Kota ini terletak di Laut Tengah, di muara Delta Nil, sekitar 191 km[1] di utara Kairo.

Dimyath modern berpenduduk 203.187 jiwa (November 2006).[2]

Sejarah

Kota yang awalnya bernama Tamiat pada masa Mesir Kuno ini memiliki pelabuhan penting, yang kemudian menjadi kurang populer karena pembangunan pelabuhan baru di Iskandariyah.

Dimyath penting selama abad ke-12 dan 13, pada masa Perang Salib. Pada tahun 1169, armada Kerajaan Yerusalem yang didukung oleh Kekaisaran Bizantium menyerang pelabuhan ini, tetapi akhirnya dikalahkan oleh Shalahuddin Yusuf bin Ayyub.

Sekarang, terdapat terusan yang menghubungkan kota ini dengan Sungai Nil, yang kembali mengubahnya sebagai salah satu pelabuhan penting di Mesir.
