The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited adalah perusahaan pengelola jaringan hotel mewah The Peninsula Hotels (SEHK: 45) asal Hong Kong. Per tahun 2024, perusahaan ini mengelola 12 hotel di seluruh dunia.

Sejarah

The Hongkong Hotel didirikan pada tahun 1866 sebagai pemilik dari Hongkong Hotel, hotel mewah pertama di Hong Kong. Pada tahun 1890-an, perusahaan ini diakuisisi oleh Elly Kadoorie, seorang pengusaha Yahudi-Irak yang pindah ke Tiongkok pada tahun 1880. Hingga saat ini, perusahaan ini masih dikelola oleh keluarga Kadoorie; cucu Elly, Michael Kadoorie, telah menjabat sebagai Ketua sejak tahun 1985.[1]

Pada tahun 1922, The Hongkong Hotel bergabung dengan The Shanghai Hotel, pemilik Astor House Hotel, untuk membentuk The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels.[2] Mereka merupakan salah satu perusahan pertama yang melantai di Bursa Efek Hong Kong. Pada tahun 1928, perusahaan ini mendirikan hotel dengan merek Peninsula pertama, The Peninsula Hong Kong, di Tsim Sha Tsui.[3]

Pada tahun 2012, perusahaan ini sempat menghebohkan dunia perhotelan karena melarang penyajian sup sirip hiu, sebuah hidangan khas Tionghoa, di hotel-hotel mereka.[4]

Penghargaan

The Peninsula Hong Kong beberapa kali disebutkan sebagai "hotel terbaik di sebelah timur Terusan Suez" sejak dibuka pada tahun 1928.[5][6][7] Sementara itu, The Peninsula Bangkok merupakan hotel terbaik #1 di Asia dan #7 di dunia menurut majalah Travel + Leisure edisi bulan Agustus 2010.[8][9]
