Thessalia

Thessalia (bahasa Yunani: Θεσσαλία, Thessalía — Thessalia: Πετθαλία Petthalia) adalah daerah geografis tradisional di Yunani. Thessalia meliputi sebagian besar Thessalia kuno. Sebelum Zaman Kegelapan Yunani, Thessalia dikenal sebagai Aiolia. Thessalia muncul dalam Odisseia karya Homeros.

Thessalia menjadi bagian dari negara Yunani modern pada tahun 1881, setelah empat setengah abad kekuasaan Kesultanan Ustmaniyah. Sejak tahun 1987 Thessalia menjadi satu dari 13 periferi[1] dan kemudian (sejak reformasi Kallikratis pada 2010) dibagi menjadi 5 unit periferal dan 25 munisipalitas. Ibu kotanya adalah Larissa. Thessalia terletak di Yunani tengah dan dibatasi oleh daerah Makedonia di utara, Epiros di barat, Yunani Tengah di selatan dan Laut Aigea di timur. Periferi Thessalia juga meliputi kepulauan Sporades.
