Taksonomi

Menurut klasifikasi modern, ordo Trichocephalida mencakup[1] subordo tunggal Trichinellina (Hodda, 2007), yang mencakup superfamili tunggal Trichinelloidea (Ward, 1907), dan mencakup 6 famili berikut:

Sebenarnya ada susunan keluarga lain yang sedikit berbeda,[4] dengan Keluarga Trichosomoididae termasuk Anatrichosoma dalam subfamili Anatrichosomatinae.

Biologi

Ekstremitas ekor jantan Eucoleus aerophilus, nematoda yang menyebabkan kapilariasis paru-paru pada rubah.

Semua anggota ordo ini bersifat histiotrofik, artinya setidaknya dalam satu tahap siklus hidupnya mereka berkembang di dalam sel atau jaringan. Mereka semua adalah parasit pada vertebrata dalam tahap dewasa. Ujung anterior lebih sempit daripada ujung posterior pada sebagian besar cacing ini, dan esofagus ramping dan tertanam dalam sel yang disebut "stikosit" yang membentuk stikosoma. Telur anggota ordo ini mempunyai sumbat bipolar atau bioperkular (kecuali pada beberapa spesies).
