Vakhsh (Tajik: Вахш) adalah sebuah kota di bagian barat-daya Tajikistan, menjadi ibu kota administratif Vakhsh District di wilayah Khatlon Region.[1]

Geografi

Kota Vakhsh terletak di lembah Sungai Vakhsh, sekitar 100 km barat-daya Dushanbe, pada ketinggian sekitar 426 m di atas permukaan laut.[1]

Demografi

Berdasarkan estimasi tahun 2020, populasi kota ini mencapai sekitar 14.900 jiwa.[1]

Administrasi

Vakhsh berfungsi sebagai pusat administratif distrik dengan nama yang sama. Wilayah administratifnya meliputi beberapa desa pertanian di sekitarnya dan merupakan bagian dari Khatlon Region.[2]

Ekonomi

Perekonomian lokal didominasi oleh pertanian, khususnya produksi kapas dan hasil irigasi di dataran lembah sungai. Kota ini terhubung oleh jalan dan rel ke Qurghonteppa dan wilayah selatan Tajikistan.[3]

Lingkungan

Daerah ini merupakan bagian dari sistem lembah Sungai Vakhsh yang berperan penting dalam irigasi dan pembangkit listrik tenaga air. Beberapa tantangan lingkungan di kawasan ini mencakup erosi tanah dan perubahan iklim yang memengaruhi gletser di hulu sungai.[4]
