Vernonieae adalah tribus yang terdiri dari sekitar 1.300 spesies tumbuhan dalam suku kenikir-kenikiran. Mereka banyak ditemukan di wilayah tropis dan wilayah iklim sedang yang lebih hangat, baik di Amerika maupun di Dunia Lama. Mereka umumnya berupa tumbuhan herba atau perdu, meskipun setidaknya terdapat satu spesies pohon, yaitu Strobocalyx arborea.[1]

Taksonomi

Vernonieae dianggap sebagai kelompok saudari dari suku Liabeae.[1][2][3] Suku ini berasal dari Afrika bagian selatan atau Madagaskar, dan menyebar ke Amerika dalam setidaknya dua peristiwa yang berbeda.[2]

Dalam banyak karya ilmiah, sekitar 80% spesies dalam suku ini diklasifikasikan ke dalam genus Vernonia. Penulis lain, seperti Harold E. Robinson, membagi suku ini ke dalam jumlah genus kecil yang lebih banyak.[1]
