Astragalus atau vetch susu adalah sebuah genus besar dengan lebih dari 3.000 spesies.[2] Di dalamnya terdapat beragam jenis herbal dan perdu kecil yang termasuk ke dalam famili Fabaceae dan subfamili Faboideae. Tumbuhan-tumbuhan dalam genus ini berasal dari wilayah dengan iklim sedang di Belahan Utara.

Genus ini dideskripsikan secara resmi oleh Carl Linnaeus pada tahun 1753 dalam karyanya yang berjudul Species Plantarum.[3]
