Viverra adalah genus Mammalia yang pertama kali dinominasikan dan dideskripsikan oleh Carl Linnaeus pada tahun 1758 yang terdiri dari beberapa spesies Musang, termasuk Musang tenggalung (Viverra tangalunga).[1] Genus ini disubordinasikan ke dalam famili Viverridae oleh John Edward Gray pada tahun 1821.[2]
