Voltameter Hofmann

Voltameter Hofmann adalah alat untuk mengelektrolisis air, ditemukan oleh August Wilhelm von Hofmann (1818–1892) pada tahun 1866. Voltameter ini terdiri dari tiga silinder tegak yang disambung, biasanya kaca. Silinder bagian dalam terbuka di bagian atas untuk memungkinkan penambahan air yang mengandung senyawa konsentrasi rendah seperti asam sulfat untuk meningkatkan konduktivitas dan melengkapi rangkaian. Elektrode platinum ditempatkan di bagian bawah masing-masing dua silinder samping, dihubungkan ke terminal positif dan negatif sumber listrik. Ketika arus dialirkan melalui voltameter Hofmann, gas oksigen terbentuk di anoda dan gas hidrogen di katode. Setiap gas menggantikan air dan berkumpul di bagian atas dua tabung luar.[1]
