Ziphiidae atau paus berparuh adalah sebuah famili cetacea yang dikenal sebagai kelompok mamalia yang paling sedikit dipahami karena habitatnya yang berada di laut dalam, sifatnya yang penyendiri, dan kelimpahannya yang tampaknya rendah.[1] Dari 24 spesies Ziphiidae yang masih hidup, hanya tiga atau empat spesies yang cukup dikenal oleh peneliti. Paus berparuh baird dan paus berparuh cuvier menjadi subjek eksploitasi komersial di lepas pesisir Jepang, sementara paus hidung-botol utara diburu secara ekstensif di bagian utara Atlantik Utara pada akhir abad ke-19 dan awal abad ke-20.[2]

Laporan-laporan telah muncul pada akhir 2020 mengenai kemungkinan penemuan spesies paus berparuh baru di lepas pesisir Meksiko, taksonominya masih belum ditentukan hingga Desember 2020.[3][4][5][6]
