Isoka er en by der ligger i Muchingaprovinsen i Zambia nær grænserne til Tanzania og Malawi. Den ligger på T2-vejen (Tanzam Highway; Great North Road). Distriktet har et areal på 5.091 km².[2]
Befolkning
Området er hovedsageligt befolket af Mwanga- og Tumbuka-folk. Den traditionelle ceremoni kaldet Ngondo fejres i distriktet.
Historie
Distriktsbyen Isoka ligger 112 km fra grænsen til Tanzania, som var en tysk koloni indtil 1918. Under 2. verdenskrig var Isoka den officielle grænsepost. Militærkonvojer på op til 100 køretøjer stoppede ved Isoka på vej til slagmarkerne i Østafrika og Vestørkenen. Vejen var dengang asfaltfri.
I 1966 havde Isoka en ungdomsskole, kun for drenge; der var ingen vandforsyning, vand blev opsamlet fra en bæk. Great North Road mellem Tunduma i Tanzania og Kapiri Mposhi var stadig den eneste vejforbindelse.[3]
