Kalcinering
Kalcinering er intens opvarmning af mineraler eller malme til lige under deres smeltepunkt, normalt i luft, for at afdrive vand, kuldioxid (CO₂) eller andre flygtige komponenter. Denne termiske proces tjener til at nedbryde, dehydrere eller kemisk omdanne materialer (f.eks. kalksten til ubrændt kalk).[1][2]
Vigtige anvendelser omfatter:
- Kalkbrænding: Omdannelse af kalksten (CaCO₃) til brændt kalk (CaO) og CO₂.
- Gipsproduktion: Afvanding af gipsbjergarter for at danne et hærdnende hemihydrat.
- Cementindustri: Klinkeforbrænding som en del af cementproduktion.
- Forarbejdning: Produktion af kalcineret aluminiumoxid, pigmenter eller lithiummetaloxider.
- Alkymi/arkæologi: Afbrænding af knogler eller materialer for at fjerne organiske rester.
