Geografi

Byen ligger mellem Naturparkerne Frankenhöhe og Fränkische Schweiz-Veldensteiner Forst ved sammenløbet af floderne Steinach og Rodach.

Kommunen er nævnt første gang i 1071 i et gavebrev.
