Yolanda Be Cool er en electronica duo fra Australien bestående af Andrew Stanley og Matthew Handley. De er bl.a. kendt for nummeret "We No Speak Americano", der nåede førstepladsen af hitlisterne i adskilligelande.

Historie

I 2010 samarbejdede de med den australske producer DCUP (rigtige navn Duncan MacLennan) om at udgive den internationale single "We No Speak Americano" på det australske indie-label Sweat It Out. Nummeret sampler det napolitanske hit fra 1956 "Tu vuò fà l'americano" på napolitansk af Renato Carosone, skrevet af Carosone og Nicola "Nisa" Salerno.[1]

"We No Speak Americano" solgte over 5 millioner eksemplarer og opnåede mere end 200 millioner visninger på YouTube på verdensplan. Nummeret toppede hitlisterne i Storbritannien, Spanien, Tyskland, Mexico, Argentina, Sverige, Danmark, Schweiz og Ecuador,[2] og nåede Top 5 i Australien, Frankrig, Italien, Spanien og Norge. Det var også et hit på hitlisterne i Colombia, New Zealand, Mexico, Peru, Den Dominikanske Republik, Ecuador, Venezuela, Honduras, Costa Rica og flere andre lande. Musikvideoen blev instrueret af Andy Hylton. Forud for hittet havde de samarbejdet med DCUP, da han remixede deres hit "Afro Nuts" i 2009.

Duoens navn, Yolanda Be Cool, er en reference til en scene i filmen Pulp Fiction, hvor karakteren Jules (spillet af Samuel L. Jackson) siger "Be cool!" til en bevæbnet røver ved navn Yolanda (spillet af Amanda Plummer). Yolanda Be Cool modtog to nomineringer ved ARIA Music Awards i 2010, herunder "Best Dance Release" og "Most Popular Australian Single" for "We No Speak Americano".[3]

I 2011 samarbejdede Yolanda Be Cool med Crystal Waters på nummeret "Le Bump"[4], som senere kom med på deres debutalbum Ladies and Mentalmen, udgivet af Sweat It Out! og DIM MAK i 2013. Albummet indeholdt bidrag fra den australske oprindelige ikon Gurrumul, house-legenderne Crystal Waters og Barbara Tucker, soul-legenden Betty Wright samt den amerikanske rapkunstner Nola Darling. Derudover remixede Yolanda Be Cool Cyndi Laupers sang "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", som indgår på 30-års jubilæumsgenudgivelsen af hendes album She's So Unusual.[5]

I 2015 gik de igen i studiet med DCUP for at lave "Sugar Man", et edit af en sang af Rodriguez, som opnåede platinstatus i Australien[6], før de skrev "Soul Makossa", som sampler Manu Dibangos saxofon. Nummeret har over 1 million afspilninger på YouTube[7] og opnåede en andenplads på Beatports Top Ten samt blev årets sjette mest solgte house-udgivelse.[8]

Yolanda Be Cool udgav "From Me to You" sammen med DCUP på Spinnin' Records den 8. februar 2016.
