Aleg is the capital of the Brakna Region, in Mauritania. It is located at 17°3′0″N 13°55′0″W / 17.05000°N 13.91667°W / 17.05000; -13.91667.
The town includes the village of 'Elb Jmel, and the village of Lamden which is known as the birthplace of former President of Mauritania, Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi.[1][2]
