Arrondissement of Pau
The arrondissement of Pau (French: Arrondissement de Pau, Occitan: Distrito de Pau Basque: Paueko barrutia) is an arrondissement of France in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It has 268 communes.[2] Its population is 311,949 (2021), and its area is 2,548.9 km2 (984.1 sq mi).[3] CompositionThe communes of the arrondissement of Pau, and their INSEE codes, are:[2]
HistoryThe arrondissement of Pau was created in 1800.[4] At the January 2017 reorganisation of the arrondissements of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, it gained 11 communes from the arrondissement of Oloron-Sainte-Marie, and it lost 11 communes to the arrondissement of Oloron-Sainte-Marie.[5] As a result of the reorganisation of the cantons of France which came into effect in 2015, the borders of the cantons are no longer related to the borders of the arrondissements.
