Beta Systems

Beta Systems Software AG is a German software provider that develops intelligent automation and orchestration solutions for IT operations.[1][2][3] The company develops products that can be accessed through the cloud, on-premise, and through an SaaS (Software as a Service) model.[1]

The company is headquartered in Berlin (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf)[4] and other global subsidiaries.

History

Beta Systems was founded in 1983 by Alfred Tauchnitz, Bill Schmidt, and James Henderson.[5][6] In the same year, the company introduced its first product, the Beta 91 Quality Management System for quality assurance of input data.[7]This was followed by Beta 92 Process History Manager, a product for controlling and archiving job logs.[8] In 1987, Beta Systems released Beta 93, its report distribution and print management system.[9]

In 1991, Beta Systems was converted into a stock corporation.[10]

The company became one of the first companies in its industry to have an IPO on the Neuer Markt in 1997.[11][6] A year later, Beta Systems acquired Harbor Systems Management.[12][13]

In April 2000, Harbor’s storage division was transferred to Beta Systems’ Boulder, Colorado-based subsidiary, Tantia Technologies.[13]

Beta Systems acquired Systor Security Solutions in 2003.[14] The following year, it acquired a majority stake in Kleindienst Datentechnik AG.[15]

Beta Systems acquired SI Software Innovation in 2008.[3] In 2009, the company acquired Detec Decision Technology Software and Detec Software Products.[16] In 2009, Beta Systems CEO Kamyar Niroumand was dismissed from his position.[17] No reason was given for his dismissal.[18]

In 2012, Beta Systems sold Detec Software to Unicorn Systems.[19] Beta Systems also acquired the Munich-based software developer Horizont Software.[20]

At the end of 2017, Beta Systems acquired Lynet Kommunikation AG.[21] In February 2018, the company also acquired Auconet.[22]

In 2019, Beta Systems acquired a majority stake in the Habel / Akzentum Group with the help of Oppenhoff & Partner.[23] Beta Systems also acquired a majority stake in the Polish company infinIT Codelab through a subsidiary.[24]

In October 2023, the company sold its shares in Proxess Holding GmbH to Easy Software AG.[25] In the same year, Beta Systems donated a z14 mainframe computer to Leipzig University for use in training junior staff.[26]

Beta Systems was named to Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Service Orchestration and Automation Platforms list in 2024.[1]
