The name "Charlecote" means "Free peasants' cottage(s)".[14] Charlecote was recorded in the Domesday Book as Cerlecote.[15] On the 25th of March 1886 a part of Wellesbourne Mountfordparish was transferred to the parish.[16] "Charle Cot" is an alternative name from historical writing for "Charlecote", and "Charlcote" is an alternative name for the parish unit.[17]
