Claremont is a town in Brown County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 108 at the 2020 census.^[6]

It was incorporated in 1903 and has been home to a post office since 1887. The town most likely was named after Claremont, New Hampshire.^[7]

Claremont is mentioned 11 times in the national record book for 6-man football. The Claremont Honkers had a 61-game win streak from 1947-1953 which set a national record, with only one team breaking the record since. Head Coach Bill Welsh still holds the record for most wins as a coach with a 98.4% average.

Claremont has another notable figure, Harley Gibbs, who was recognized in 2023 as the youngest pilot hired in Delta Airlines history.

In 2016 Claremont was home to the first ever official location of the El Floor food truck later moving locations to Sterling Illinois

2010 census

As of the census^[11] of 2010, there were 127 people, 53 households, and 32 families residing in the town. The population density was 508.0 inhabitants per square mile (196.1/km²). There were 61 housing units at an average density of 244.0 per square mile (94.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.2% White and 0.8% from two or more races.

There were 53 households, of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.3% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 39.6% were non-families. 32.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 20.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 3.03.

The median age in the town was 40.3 years. 26.8% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 22.8% were from 25 to 44; 22.8% were from 45 to 64; and 21.3% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 48.8% male and 51.2% female.

As of the census^[5] of 2000, there were 130 people, 60 households, and 39 families residing in the town. The population density was 469.1 inhabitants per square mile (181.1/km²). There were 75 housing units at an average density of 270.6 per square mile (104.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 100.00% White.

There were 60 households, out of which 23.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.74.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 22.3% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 20.8% from 25 to 44, 30.8% from 45 to 64, and 20.0% who were 65 years of age or older.
