Déjean BélizaireDéjean Bélizaire is a Haitian politician who served as president of the Senate from 1991 to 1993.[1] Bélizaire was born in 1935[2] in Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite.[1] He was the head of Haitian Students Union (UNEH) in the late 1950s.[2] He is an engineer, who worked in Algeria and USA before returning to Haiti. He is a former chairman a center-left party Mouvement National Patriotique de 28 Novembre (MNP 28).[3] Bélizaire was elected to the Senate in 1990.[1] He was the president of the Senate from 1991 to 31 January 1993. He was the president of the Senate when Jean-Bertrand Aristide was overthrown in a coup d'état in September 1991.[4] In February 2016 Bélizaire was a candidate for the position of a provisional president,[5] but lost the elections.
