On June 13, 2025, 41-year old Michael Rayner made threats to police during a house visit regarding a petrol bomb attack plot on multiple targets across Chatham, England. Rayner was arrested and handed a three-month curfew/community service sentence, along with being forced to pay around £199 in victim surchanges and prosecution costs.
The targets listed by Rayner were a mosque on Dale Street, Chatham and a McDonalds on nearby High Street. Both attacks were prevented, with police stating that Rayner's statements were unplanned and impulsive, though it was still treated as a serious threat at the time of discovery.
It is also known that Rayner had not been allowed in the area near the mosque as part of a legal restraining order.
No links to terrorism were found.
