ADiT-Lab (Applied Digital Transformation Laboratory) is a research and development (R&D) unit of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC), Portugal, focused on digital transformation and the development of applied technological solutions in organizational and societal contexts.[1]
The unit is part of the Portuguese scientific and technological system and has been recognized as a research unit by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) within the national R&D evaluation process for the period 2025–2029.[2]
It is also registered in national science management platforms such as PTCRIS, which aggregate information on research units and scientific projects in Portugal.[3]
History
ADiT-Lab was established in 2021 as part of the strategy to strengthen applied research at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo.
Since its creation, the unit has developed research activities focused on the practical application of digital technologies, particularly in the digital transformation of public and private organizations.[1]
In 2024, it was recognized as a research unit by FCT, receiving a rating of Good and funding for the period 2025–2029.[2]
Mission

Its activities emphasize knowledge transfer and collaboration between academia, industry and public institutions.
Research areas
ADiT-Lab organizes its scientific activity into several thematic areas related to digital transformation:
Intelligent environments
Intelligent environments result from the integration of information and communication technologies with the physical world, enabling adaptive and context-aware systems.
Cybersecurity

ADiT-Lab collaborates with other higher education institutions in organizing scientific initiatives for young researchers.
One example is SASYR (Symposium of Applied Science for Young Researchers), which brings together master's students and early-stage researchers from ADiT-Lab (IPVC), 2Ai (IPCA) and CeDRI (IPB).[6]
Impact
ADiT-Lab contributes to strengthening links between academia and industry, supporting innovation and digital transformation, particularly in the Minho region.
Recognition by FCT and registration in PTCRIS reinforce its position within the Portuguese scientific system.[2][3]
