Aix Film Lab is a private film school in Aix-en-Provence, France, offering vocational higher education and training in cinema and audiovisual production. It was founded by French filmmaker and educator Étienne Constantinesco.[1][2]
History
Aix Film Lab was developed beginning in 2022 by Étienne Constantinesco with the aim of building a practice-oriented curriculum tailored to modern digital production workflows.[2] Following regulatory approvals and curriculum design, the school formally opened its doors to its inaugural student cohorts in September 2024 in the city center of Aix-en-Provence.[1]
Programmes
The school offers intensive two-year training programmes. The curriculum consists of a foundational first year (tronc commun) dedicated to general cinema and audiovisual studies, followed by a second year of technical specialisation in either editing (montage) or camera work and directing (image-réalisation or image/prise de vue).
The foundational first year comprises over 700 hours of academic and practical instruction, including approximately 150 hours of direct on-set filming experience organised across four distinct teaching units, and includes integrated professional certification for industry-standard software including Adobe Premiere Pro.[3]
The academy emphasizes eco-responsible and green filmmaking production setups within its technical modules.[1] The school is located at 9 Cours Gambetta in Aix-en-Provence and holds the French Qualiopi state quality certification for registered professional training providers.
