Alpha Luna is an urban fantasy webcomic/manga written and illustrated by Leonardo Vidal. It was first published online at alphaluna.net on January 2, 2005, and later moved to alphalunacomic.net in mid 2022.^[1] Alpha Luna is set in the fictional Chilean town of Anthera, which is based off of San Antonio. Taking place in the spring of 2005, the story centers on Luna Diaz, a 19-year-old girl who discovers her werewolf nature as she has to face super-natural creatures with the reliable help of her nerdy friend Collie, and a stubborn werewolf named "Fang".

In 2009, the webcomic was restarted with new and re-edited pages that reworked some of the story-line key plot points. Later the same year, the comic was self-published and printed in Chile as a magazine, which only included Chapter 1.

In December 2010 Mythica Ediciones published in Chile, the first book (Tomo 1) including Chapter 1, 2 and 3,in a Tankōbon format, probably the first Chilean Manga/Comic Book published in this format.^[2]

In 2014, a second edition of the same book would be published in Chile by Editorial Visuales, some pages were updated for this new edition containing new drawings.

In 2015, Leo started his own Patreon page to support his ongoing work, and later the same year, Editorial Visuales published, the long awaited Book 2 (Tomo 2), which contained Chapter 4, plus three Alpha Luna Chronicles stories: "Fang's Joruney", "Luna's Strength" and "Collie's Spirit".^[3]

As of March 7th, 2026, both books can be purchased at Editorial Visuales, only in spanish language. Meanwhile, the website offers digital versions of each Chapter and its Chronicle Comics in English and Spanish language.^[4]

As of March 7th, 2026, is actively still being drawn. There are 5 chapters, plus a bonus comic known as "Beta-Collie" (play on words with the title, and Colleen's nickname) available at the website. While the Book 3 is currently scheduled to be published in 2027.^[5]

As of 2026, there is no physical release of Alpha Luna available for purchase in English language. The comic can only be read at and at its old Deviant Art Gallery.

The story follows Luna Díaz, a 19-year-old high-school student who unexpectedly discovers that she belongs to a bloodline of werewolves (lycanthropes).^[6]

The story begins with Luna, who is currently having a nightmare whilst asleep in her high school classroom. She wakes up from this, gets into a fight with someone after they provoke her, then leaves to go home only to find that several burglars have broken into her home and are in the process of stealing everything of value. Luna is then knocked out by one of the thieves, and is taken upstairs to her mother's bedroom. After Luna discovers that her mother has been seriously injured, this triggers something in her subconscious, which then causes Luna to transform and go berserk. She then proceeds to go downstairs and wreak havoc on the unsuspecting thieves. While this is happening, Alex is discovered to be sleeping in a field somewhere outside Anthera, and wakes up looking down the barrel of Hector's 12-gauge. He then proceeds to transform for no other reason than to show off, disarming Hector in the process. After clearing things up with him and his adopted son Ivan, he leaves to locate Luna.

This chapter begins with a flashback showing a 7-year old Luna being dropped off at Laura's (her adoptive mother) house by Alban, one of the tribal elders from the Canis Major lycanthrope clan. After this, the story picks up back at Luna's house, where she proceeds to beat up every single one of the thieves, and Alex when he arrives after being alerted to Luna's presence due to her howling. There is another flashback scene depicting Alex running into Colleen by pure chance, in which he proceeds to yell at her demanding that she leave him alone. Colleen ignores him, and instead shows him where Luna's house is after he explains that he is looking for her. After this, Alex transforms at Luna's house so he can fight her more effectively, which turns out to not be helpful whatsoever as he still gets beaten up quite badly. It is at this point that Colleen runs upstairs to find that Laura has awoken, and after talking for a moment they both return to the lower floor where Colleen confirms that the supernatural being she is witnessing with her own two eyes is indeed Luna, her friend. Following this, it turns out that a 'rune fang' necklace that Alex had brought with him has started affecting Luna in some manner, so he gives it to Laura. This triggers some form of telepathy to occur whereby Laura is able to communicate with Luna, and the two have a conversation about just happened. Luna then regains consciousness, and is completely bewildered at what is currently happening. She then proceeds to pass out on the floor, and reverts to her normal human self. Colleen, who has been watching this, is utterly disgusted by what she has just seen and throws up on the floor, before also passing out. With that, the thieves escape and run off to some unknown location, and presumably Laura takes both Colleen and Luna to bed.
