Comment: All that this draft says is that Alpuche is a surname of Spanish origin, in use in the late 16th century and the early 19th, and that its etymology is obscure. How it might merit an article (how it might qualify under WP:N) is a puzzle. Hoary (talk) 06:45, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
Alpuche
Alpuche is a surname of Spanish origin. A documented occurrence of the surname appears in late sixteenth-century Spain. In a 2001 article on the Mora family of Quintanar de la Orden, historian Vincent Parello records that in 1588, by order of the inquisitors of Cuenca, the secretary Julián de Alpuche went to the Cámara del Secreto of Toledo to retrieve legal processes, genealogies, and sentences concerning members of the Mora family.[1]
Historical attestation
The surname is attested in Castilian inquisitorial documentation from the late sixteenth century. Parello mentions Julián de Alpuche as a secretary acting under the authority of the inquisitors of Cuenca in 1588, when he searched the secret archive of Toledo for records relating to the Mora family of Quintanar de la Orden.[2]
Possible etymology
The etymology of the surname has not been conclusively established in the available secondary literature. A possible comparison may be made with Catalan surnames or toponyms containing Puig, meaning "hill" or "height", but this connection requires further citation from specialist onomastic sources.
