Career
Ellis began getting attention in February 2020 when he started posting videos on his TikTok account, including a cover of “Are You Bored Yet?” by Wallows. His online presence on social media platforms, especially TikTok and Instagram, helped him build an audience and really start his music career.
Before he started acting, Axel Ellis was just known as a musician and got popular from being in his band, Ax and the Hatchetmen. In 2018, he formed the indie rock band Ax and the Hatchetmen in Chicago after connecting with another musician through Instagram. From there, Axel Ellis brought together other musicians he knew from jazz programs and his music school, and the group officially formed. The band has gone on multiple tours, including their “So Much to Tell You” tour in 2025
Later, Axel Ellis became a member of The Runarounds, a band formed through a casting process for the series “The Runarounds,” which was also created by the same producers of Outer Banks. Out of more than 5,000 auditions, he was chosen as one of the real musicians to form the band around 2021. After being cast in the show, Axel transitioned into acting while continuing his music career. As the band gained popularity, he continued performing with them in real life, including live shows like the Lovin’ Life Music Fest in 2025.
