Benjamin "Ben" Shea is an Australian rugby league coach and former professional player. He is currently co-coach of the Albi Tigers alongside Tony Gigot in the French Elite One Championship.
Playing career
Shea played over 180 matches in the Queensland Cup, representing the Wynnum Manly Seagulls, Ipswich Jets, and Redcliffe Dolphins.[1]
He spent the majority of his career with Wynnum Manly, making more than 130 appearances for the club.[2]
Shea was a member of the Wynnum Manly teams that won back-to-back Queensland Cup premierships in 2011 and 2012 under coach Paul Green.[3][4]
He was also named in the club's squad for the 2021 Intrust Super Cup Grand Final.
Following his time at Wynnum Manly, Shea joined the Ipswich Jets before later playing for the Redcliffe Dolphins.[5]
During his career in Queensland, Shea was selected for the Queensland Residents representative side.[6]
Shea later continued his career in France, playing in the Elite One Championship, where he featured in finals series matches. He was named in the Albi Tigers squad (No. 8) for the Super XIII Grand Final and was part of the team that won the 2024–25 championship.[7]
Coaching career
Following his playing career, Shea transitioned into coaching with the Junee Diesels in the Group 9 competition.[8]
He later returned to France and joined the coaching staff of the Albi Tigers, where he currently serves as co-coach alongside Tony Gigot.[9] [10]
