BiPOL, founded in 1983, is an American bisexual political organization and is considered among the first bisexual political organizations in the United States.[1] It was founded in San Francisco by Autumn Courtney, Lani Kaʻahumanu, Arlene Krantz, David Lourea, Bill Mack, Alan Rockway, and Maggi Rubenstein. The organization's goal was to "build a visible bisexual community and viable political movement to counter 'bisexual as 'typhoid Mary'/scapegoat' stereotype".[2] BiPOL was founded as a feminist organization.

In 1984, BiPOL attended the 1984 Democratic National Convention, where Kaʻahumanu spoke and the first rally was held for bisexual visibility.[3][4] During the convention, Kaʻahumanu went on stage as a potential candidate for vice president.[5]

In 1990, BiPOL organized the first National Bisexual Conference,[2] which resulted in the formation of the North American Multicultural Bisexual Network.[6]
