The New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) is a statewide law enforcement and prosecutorial agency within the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The division investigates and prosecutes violations of state criminal law and oversees complex or multi-jurisdictional criminal cases across the state.[1]
The division operates under the authority of the Attorney General of New Jersey and works closely with New Jersey’s 21 county prosecutors’ offices and other law enforcement agencies to ensure uniform enforcement of criminal laws.[2] Its responsibilities include investigating and prosecuting organized crime, public corruption, financial crimes, and other major criminal offenses.[3]
The Division of Criminal Justice is led by a director appointed by the attorney general. The director supervises assistant prosecutors, detectives, and professional staff who conduct statewide criminal investigations and prosecutions on behalf of the State of New Jersey.[4]
