Draft:Devlog

For more information, see Release notes.

A devlog or development log is a blog or vlog that documents the changes made in the development process of a video game, website, or app.[1] Devlogs are usually associated with video game development but can also be used in fields such as software engineering and web development. They are typically shared on popular media platforms, such as YouTube, or on personal websites and journals.

Purpose

Devlogs act as public documentation of a project's history, tracking completed and incomplete tasks; however, developers also use devlogs to build trust with audiences during development.[2][3] Content creators can use devlogs as a way to improve a project's visibility by promoting the process on social media.[4][5] Devlogs can be published in various ways, including but not limited to:

  • Blog posts
  • Video diaries
  • Social media
  • Indie game sites
  • Community newsletters
  • Project update pages/patch notes
