DogeOS is a blockchain project developing an application layer for the Dogecoin blockchain. It is built by the team behind MyDoge, a self-custodial Dogecoin wallet, and its founder and chief executive is Jordan Jefferson. The project describes DogeOS as an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible layer that uses zero-knowledge proof verification, intended to support decentralized applications, gaming, and decentralized finance built around DOGE.[1][2][3]
Background
Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency launched in December 2013 by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, originally as a joke based on the Shiba Inu "doge" internet meme.[4] It became known for online tipping and internet culture, but historically lacked the smart-contract functionality and decentralized-finance infrastructure available on networks such as Ethereum and Solana.[2] In interviews, Jefferson has argued that this gap left one of the largest communities in cryptocurrency without native applications, and that most Dogecoin trading value has been captured by centralized exchanges.[2]
MyDoge is a self-custodial Dogecoin wallet that introduced a social tipping feature, MyDogeTip, allowing users to send DOGE through posts on X (formerly Twitter).[2] According to the company, MyDoge has more than 500,000 users.[3]
In 2022, MyDoge and technology investor Bill Lee acquired an ownership stake in the BIG3 basketball league's Aliens team. The purchase involved a Dogecoin transaction sent to league co-founder Ice Cube that was reported to be worth approximately $600,000.[5]
Funding
In May 2025, DogeOS said it had raised $6.9 million in a seed round led by Polychain Capital, with Luke Pearson of Polychain commenting on the investment. The announcement was distributed as a press release and reported by cryptocurrency trade media.[6][7]
OP_CHECKZKP proposal
In July 2025, DogeOS submitted a proposal to Dogecoin Core, published as a discussion on the project's GitHub repository, to add native zero-knowledge proof verification to Dogecoin. The proposal, named OP_CHECKZKP, would introduce a new script opcode by reusing the previously unused OP_NOP10 (opcode 185), enabling the network to verify zero-knowledge proofs on-chain. The initial design supported Groth16 proofs on the BLS12-381 curve, with a mode selector intended to allow additional proof systems such as PLONK in future.[8][9][10]
The proposal followed a soft-fork approach, meaning that nodes which did not adopt the change would treat the new opcode as a no-op, preserving backward compatibility. Because verifying a Groth16 proof takes on the order of 10 to 20 milliseconds, the proposal specified limits of one proof per script and five per block at launch. DogeOS said the change would allow zero-knowledge rollups and other layer-two protocols on Dogecoin, and that the company was separately developing an EVM-compatible zero-knowledge virtual machine (zkVM) that would settle to Dogecoin.[9][11][8]
The proposal drew technical discussion on GitHub, including questions about how the opcode would function if only a minority of nodes adopted it, and concern that Groth16 on BLS12-381 is not post-quantum secure. The proposal was covered by CoinDesk, The Block, CryptoSlate, and TokenPost.[10]
Technology
DogeOS describes itself as an EVM-compatible application layer that relies on zero-knowledge proof verification, with DOGE as the primary asset.[2]
Reception
Coverage of DogeOS has come mainly from cryptocurrency trade publications and from interviews with Jefferson at industry conferences. Supporters have described the project as an effort to build infrastructure around one of cryptocurrency's largest communities, while some within the Dogecoin community have argued that Dogecoin should remain focused on simple peer-to-peer payments rather than decentralized finance.[7][2]
