  • Comment: The Register citation is somewhat helpful, but the Quartz article was already cited, CIO Dive is WP:DEPENDENTCOVERAGE, and Futurum is not WP:RS. See WP:ORGIND: "Independent content, in order to count towards establishing notability, must include original and independent opinion, analysis, investigation, and fact checking that are clearly attributable to a source unaffiliated to the subject." New content also sounds like marketing - see WP:TONE and Wikipedia:Use plain English. Still would help to point out WP:THREESOURCES. Recent BARC analysis might count as one.   • Comment: Checked the cited sources and also checked for additional sources in Google Books, Google News, and Google Scholar, and I can't find sufficient independent, significant coverage in multiple secondary sources that would meet WP:NORG (see also WP:SIRS). A lot of the secondary coverage is routine (WP:CORPTRIV) or WP:DEPENDENTCOVERAGE, mostly based on press releases. Dremio staff have published two books with O'Reilly that have some in-depth coverage of Dremio products, but they aren't really independent of the company. Dremio is an American software company that develops a data platform for analytics and business intelligence workloads.[1] The company was founded in 2015 by Tomer Shiran and Jacques Nadeau, who previously worked together at MapR Technologies, and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California.[2]

History

Dremio was founded in 2015 by Tomer Shiran and Jacques Nadeau.[3][2] Shiran had previously served as Vice President of Product at MapR Technologies,[2] and Nadeau co-created Apache Arrow.[4][5] The company was established to address challenges associated with querying and analyzing data stored in large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop.[4] It is headquartered in Santa Clara, California.[2]

Dremio launched its data lake engine in 2017, designed to enable SQL-based access to data stored in distributed data sources.[6][7] The company subsequently introduced Gandiva,[8] a code execution engine based on Apache Arrow,[8] to improve query performance.[9]

Over time, Dremio expanded its platform to support open data formats such as Apache Iceberg and cloud-based data lake architectures.[10] The company co-created Apache Polaris, an open-source catalog for the Apache Iceberg ecosystem, and contributes to Apache Arrow governance.[9][11]

In 2026, SAP announced an agreement to acquire Dremio.[13][14] SAP planned to use Dremio to support SAP Business Data Cloud with federated, query-in-place lakehouse capabilities, which allows customers to run high-performance queries across SAP and non-SAP data without physical consolidation.[15]

Products

Dremio develops a cloud-based data platform, commonly described as a data lakehouse, that combines elements of data lakes and data warehouses.[16][6] The platform enables organizations to run SQL queries directly on data stored in cloud object storage systems, such as Amazon S3 and Azure Data Lake Storage, without requiring data to be moved into a proprietary store.[6][17]

The platform is built natively on Apache Arrow, Apache Iceberg, and Apache Polaris. A review by InfoWorld said that Dremio includes broad SQL compatibility, support for any data, and an open architecture designed to avoid vendor lock-in, while also observing that the platform lacks native business intelligence or machine learning capabilities.[17]

Dremio offers both self-managed software and a managed cloud service, Dremio Cloud, for analytics workloads.[16] Industry analyst Kevin Petrie of BARC U.S. said that Dremio's participation in the open-source community, particularly through Apache Arrow and Apache Iceberg, provides exposure and user adoption that helps the company compete against larger rivals including Databricks and cloud providers such as AWS and Google Cloud.[18]

Enterprise use

Dremio's platform has been used in enterprise data environments, including use in data mesh architectures at organizations such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.[19] According to the company, enterprise customers include Shell, TD Bank, Michelin, Maersk, Amazon, Regeneron, NetApp, and S&P Global.[20]

Open source contributions

Dremio co-created Apache Arrow, the open columnar in-memory data format, and Apache Polaris, the open-source Apache Iceberg catalog standard. The company is also a major contributor to Apache Iceberg. In April 2026, Dremio engineer JB Onofre was elected to The Apache Software Foundation board, following his role shepherding Apache Polaris through the ASF incubation process.[11]
