EOOS is an Austrian design studio based in Vienna. Founded in 1995, the studio works in the fields of product and furniture design as well as social design.

EOOS was founded in 1995 by Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohmann and Harald Gruendl, who met while studying at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in the class of Paolo Piva. The studio works with manufacturers in Europe and North America on furniture and product design projects. Between 2000 and 2010, the studio also undertook projects in retail design. Since 2010, EOOS has expanded its activities in the field of social design, with a particular focus on decentralized sanitation infrastructure and hygiene-related systems^[1][2].

EOOS uses the term “Poetic Analysis” to describe its design methodology, which frames design as a cultural and interpretative practice. The approach employs imagery, rituals and mythological references as conceptual tools within the design process^[3][4].

In 2015, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna presented the exhibition EOOS,^[5] which addressed the studio’s design language positioned between archaic references and high technology, as well as themes related to responsible consumption and sustainability.

In 2016, EOOS realized the open-design project Social Furniture in collaboration with Caritas Austria at the basidomus eoosc care facility “Haus Erdberg” in Vienna.^[6] The project was presented as part of the Austrian Pavilion at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016.^[7]

In 2019, EOOS participated in the XXII Triennale di Milano with the project Circular Flows: The Toilet Revolution,^[8] which was presented as the official Austrian contribution and received the Silver Black Bee Award.^[9]

Also in 2019, EOOS designed the exhibition Climate Change! From Mass Consumption to a Sustainable Quality Society for the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna as part of the Vienna Biennale for Change, presenting five design installations that addressed sustainable living, resource conservation, and climate change^[10][11].

EOOS has received several international design awards, including the Compasso d’Oro, the Red Dot Design Award, the iF Design Award and the Good Design Award of the Chicago Athenaeum, all of which have been awarded to the studio multiple times. EOOS has also received the Wallpaper* Design Award.^{[12][13][14][15][16]}
