Draft:Eva Temple

Eva Temple (maiden name Eva Bader) was born in 1944 in Bratislava, Slovakia, During the second world war when the country was under German control. When she was only a baby, her Jewish parents were deported, leaving her in the care of her grandmother. Her grandmother hid Eva in a secret room to protect her from the Nazis, but they were eventually discovered and sent to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, the same one that Anne Frank was at.

When Bergen-Belsen was liberated on the 15th of April 1945, British soldiers found Eva in the arms of her dying grandmother. Although she was severely malnourished, Eva survived. She later recovered in Sweden before being adopted by her uncle and taken to live in England. In the 1960s, she migrated to South Australia as a Ten Pound Pom.

Today, Eva is dedicated to holocaust education. She regularly speaks to school students about her experiences and honors the courage and sacrifice of her grandmother, whom she believes saved her life. Through telling her story, Eva encourages people to remember the Holocaust and to stand against prejudice, antisemitism, and injustice.
